You wouldn’t walk into an emergency room and start operating on people without first taking a few years of school to educate you. You can’t just walk into a courtroom and start practicing law. Why on earth is it that so many people expect to walk into the world of Adsense and Internet marketing with no training and make high dollar sales overnight? While it might happen, it is an unlikely scenario at best. You need to educate yourself about the requirements, terminology, and best methods for making money online through Adsense. Don’t dive in without learning as much as you can about the waters first. You just might find that they are more than a little shark infested.

If You Think You Can…

You’ve probably heard the saying many times in your life. It rings true after all these years and bears repeating. If you think you can, you can. If you think you can’t, you probably can’t. Make sure that you believe with everything in you that you can make money with your Adsense marketing efforts. It often helps once you’ve made your first sale. However, it is a long road between deciding to do it, launching a campaign, and making that critical sale. There is no sense in moving forward though if you don’t really believe that not only is there money to be made online but also that you are someone who can make money online.

Be Realistic

One problem that is rampant when it comes to Adsense income is the number of people going into this expecting instant millions. While it would be nice, it’s far from practical. Don’t wait around for the money to come rolling in or expect huge dollar signs within days of launching your campaign. It takes time to build a successful blog or website and it takes traffic to bring in those important clicks. Even then, the clicks translate to pennies and dollars not hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Take small steps, be realistic, and expect steady success in order to enjoy real and lasting success.

Adopt a $5 a Day Philosophy

If you haven’t heard of it, you can find out a lot by doing an Internet search for 5 bucks a day. The long and short of it is this. Learn how to make $5 a day and then repeat that every day. Pretty soon, you will be bringing in $10, $100, or even $1,000 a day by simply repeating the process day after day. In all marketing efforts, even Adsense, we start with baby steps. Learn where people are clicking, pay a visit, and figure out why they are clicking. If you can figure out why, you’re halfway there.

Persistent Efforts Bring Consistent Results

When you find something that works be persistent and diligent. Do it over and over again to get the same results. The same holds true for things that do not work. If it doesn’t work, don’t do it any more. You will likely get the same results for trying the same thing over and over again. There is no reason to beat your head against the wall when you could make changes and see what happens as a result. Small changes can sometimes bring in amazing results.

Be Flexible

When it comes to Adsense income a hot commodity today may be a cold wet blanket tomorrow. Be willing and able to roll with the punches. While it’s hard not to do, don’t learn to depend on a certain amount of Adsense income. Learn to make that income the gravy and live on income from other sources. There are too many ways to fall out of the good graces of Google and far too many marketers have found themselves left in the lurch when it comes to Adsense by being dropped for costly mistakes made in the process of running successful Adsense campaign.

It is best to never put all of your eggs into one basket when Internet marketing period. It is especially wise not to do it when you are marketing with Adsense. Be sure to branch out and market other things on your blogs or web pages instead of depending solely on Adsense income. The more the merrier when it comes to money and you can offer products and services without feeling as though you are selling. That, after all, is what Adsense income is all about.

Have a Plan

Too many times people interested in making money online through everything but the kitchen sink into something then sit back and HOPE it will work. Hope works well in some circumstances. I’ve used it before during tense hockey games. It is not a good plan for building a business. If you want to make money by building Adsense as a source of income then you need to have a plan as to how that’s going to work out for you. More importantly, that plan needs to be realistic and based on fact rather than Internet hype. There are a few people who are making a great deal of money through Adsense. What they don’t tell you is that it took them a long time to get to that point—not to mention a carefully followed plan of action.

Work on Your Plan Every Day

You need to hold yourself accountable to your plan and really work your plan until you’ve either reached your goals or determined that your plan isn’t working. You can’t create a plan, look at it but not really do anything for a few months and then toss it aside as worthless. That’s a waste of time, energy, and a good plan and a sure way NOT to make money with Adsense. You need to work on your plan each and every day. If you don’t work on your plan, you need to have a good reason why you aren’t working on it that day.

Learn as You Go

There are no two marketers who operate in exactly the same way. There may be similarities but everyone has their own unique style and presence online. More importantly, they learn things that do and do not work for them as they go. You can buy all the books in the world but ultimately the things you are more comfortable doing with Adsense are the things you are going to do. Learn from these, which techniques work well for you and which do not. Adjust your business plan accordingly and consider outsourcing the things you find less tolerable but that MUST be done.

Adsense income is a beautiful feeling, like pennies raining down from the heavens. However, it can be a little confusing while you are going through the learning curve. Keep these basics in mind and your experience as well as your Adsense income will grow as you go.

Even if you don’t plan on making contextual advertising a key component of your business, you should have and maintain an Adsense account. That means you should definitely look out for three of the most common goofs that can lead to an account ban.

Self-clicking. This is the biggest one and it’s probably the #1 reason for account removals. You simply can’t click on the ads displaying on your web sites. Resist the urge. Don’t do it. They will figure it out and they’ll close down your account.

Presentation blunders. You can’t blend the ads into your site to the point where they look like non-sponsored content or part of your site navigation system. There are rules regarding the use of graphics near the ads. Slip ups in these departments might just convince someone to drop a dime on you with Google or they might find out on their own. It can lead to a ban. Read the terms of service.

Sleazy tricks. “You click my ad and I’ll click yours” arrangements with another publisher or more complicated schemes based on the same principle are a good way to get the ax. As much as we’d like to pretend otherwise sometimes, Google is staffed with smart cookies who write great code. They figure these things out and they dole out bans when they do.

Keep your Adsense account intact and in good standing. Read the TOS carefully and play by the rules. There’s no reason to find yourself banned from using the number one contextual ad program just because you were sloppy or “looking for an angle”.
